At Children's Dentistry of Northborough, we love giving back to our community! Dr. Macdonald and her team regularly visit local daycares and elementary schools, educating children about the importance of dental health in Northborough.

Today, we're going to share with parents some of the things we teach in the schools so that you can apply the tips at home. Let's get started!

The Impact of Daily Brushing and Flossing

We emphasize to kids the importance of having a consistent brushing and flossing routine. Brush twice a day, in the morning and before bedtime, for 2 minutes each session, spending 30 seconds on each quadrant of your mouth. Flossing should take place at least once per day.

We discuss proper brushing techniques and choosing the right tools, such as your favorite toothpaste and an electric toothbrush.

Encouraging Healthy Snack Choices

During our school visits for kids in Northborough, MA, we discuss the integral role that diet and nutrition play in optimal oral health. We offer ideas for healthy snack choices, like fruits and veggies over chips and crackers.

This is because fruits and veggies help neutralize the acids in the mouth that cause tooth decay, whereas crackers and chips actually contribute to it. Eating fruits and veggies also increases saliva flow, which is a natural protectant for your teeth.

Consistent Routine Dental Checkups

When discussing children’s oral health in Northborough, we also emphasize the importance of routine teeth cleanings and checkups with their children's dentist every six months. The dentist will provide a thorough exam, and the hygienist will clean their teeth, removing the plaque and bacteria buildup they might've missed at home.

We let kids know that we would love to care for their smiles at Children's Dentistry of Northborough and that their parents can make an appointment for them by calling (508) 393-9394.
